Adventures with Slime

Group Two Adventures with Slime 😀

All week we have been experimenting with different recipes for slime.  First we tried making it with glue, contact solution and diluted paint - it turned out pretty runny.
Next we used glue, cornstarch and diluted paint- stretchy, but not what they were looking for.
The third batch was glue, food colouring and contact solution. Mrs. Marriner suggested adding some baking soda. This worked better and we made a small batch.  After, this success we, of course, had to double it and it was super stretchy... and then on our  fifth attempt we finally got it right.  They say practice makes perfect........!

Mrs. Richard loves to play with slime!

We can even make a bubble 🗨

The super stretchy slime 😀

We have been having some Halloween fun in Group One.

"Our Spooktacular Door" with puffy paint ghosts, bats/pumpkins and a little worm made by B.W.

P.W. making her puffy paint ghost.

We started off making our Bats/Pumpkins by using droppers with food colouring on paper towel. This is a great activity to help build fine motor skills.  Then N.M wanted to change it up by putting on a pair of gloves and dunking the paper towel in a pail.  This made for a totally different experience and she created some really awesome art.

Exploring the properties of cornstarch and water.  We love messy play! We added some spiders to extend the play 🕷🕸

Group two made some really awesome ramps.  First step was to draw a design of how they wanted their ramps to look.  Next, they used popsicle sticks and hot glue (with adult supervision, of course) to piece their ramps together.

When they were testing out their ramps they realized that they were really bumpy for the mini skateboards.  O. had a great idea though, he suggested placing a piece of paper on top and that worked for a smoother ride!🛹

Here are some photos of Group One creating the EDP "Safe Keeper" Box.  Each child designed their own rock and then, of course, we had to have a cool box to keep them.  We discussed all the ways that we help keep each other safe; by being kind, being helpful to others when they are sad, practice deep breathing and being Covid wise.  Each morning they put their rock in the "safe keeper box" and make a commitment to do their best to keep each other "safe".

We decided to take advantage of all of the beautiful leaves we have been finding, and make ourselves a leaf necklace 🍁

C. used his problem solving skills when he was using the hole punch to punch holes in his leaves.  C. " said I put all of my leaves together and then punched the hole." Great idea C :)

Welcome to October :)

We have started the month by writing what we are thankful for on our "Thankful Pumpkins".  The children have been telling us so many wonderful things that they are thankful for.  We may need a bigger pumpkin 😀   We will keep this going for the month and we will post a pic of the completed pumpkin at the end of October!
